Please, they're not that bad. Makes me wonder what kind of old people you know.
[She quite enjoys her time with them, actually. Sometimes she really enjoys sitting in the living room while Gustave, Sciel, and Lune talk about this or that.]
But you're right, I probably wouldn't be doing this.
[It's her turn to nudge him first with her elbow.]
What did you want to drink?
[She'll order for them. She likes talking to the bots.]
Ordering for me? Well, if you insist... hot chocolate.
[He's not much of a coffee guy, not yet, but something warm in this cooling weather sounds good. Besides, chocolate pastries and hot chocolate? He thinks that's a great combination.]
Going to order the same as me? [He smiles, almost teasingly.] Come on, we gotta match.
[There's a bounce in her step as she goes to order from the bot working the cafe. It's a cute place--]
I haven't been here before. I'm starting to realize I should... probably get out a little more. There are so many places to see, here. More than NYX and the apartments.
[This time, he bites any sarcastic commentary, the mutant tilting his head slightly as he fully takes in her words. She really is kind of a shut in, huh? Maelle reminds him of a good friend he made back home, someone that also had a hard time making friends and...
He smiles, something sincere for once taking hold of him.]
Yeah, there's some pretty cool places here. Seems kind of boring to stay cooped up in just two buildings when there's a lot out here. [...] We don't have to see everything all in one day, we can do this again, you know?
[With their twin orders put in, Maelle listens to Scott with a pleasant smile. It grows when he says they could do this again--it sounds like a good idea to her.]
Are you sure you want to say that? We've barely started this adventure. You might find you don't want to spend a minute more with me.
[Another bump of his shoulders against hers, teasing but still edging on something supporting because didn't she mention that she didn't a lot of friends back home? If just because of the nature of her world. Yeah sure, he didn't have a lot either, but it's just different.]
If I didn't want to hang out with you I would've told you from the start. Seriously, you're like one of the cooler people around.
[What's with the doubt!! When has he ever led her astray?? Scott snorts though, clearly not taking any offense to her reaction. Besides, there is something nice about her admitting that she'll always remember his compliment, even if she's joking mostly. It's why he doesn't put too much focus on it, instead sliding ahead so that he can grab their hot chocolate and pastries as they become ready.]
Don't worry I got this.
[Just Scott grabbing both hot chocolates and trying to hold the bags of pastries to his chest before walking over to Maelle like this.]
[He totally had it handled!! Okay, probably not, and he is grateful to have his own cup and pastry securely gripped in his hands, with the mutant nod and leading the way out-- his shoulder pushing the door open so she can walk out.]
Oh, you're totally excited for this, huh? [He's really having too much fun in his own way.] Admit it.
[Oh, well, obviously!! Okay maybe he's a little more used to people putting up some resistance to his shenanigans; they certainly give him some attitude about it. So, Scott actually blinks for a couple of seconds before easing back into a grin.]
Well, duh. It's on your face and everything. [...] But come on, try the hot chocolate. You've had this before, right?
[He has his own cup tilted to his mouth, though he doesn't take a sip just yet.]
[A little thicker than this drink, but Maelle doesn't mind it as she takes a sip. She's fond of sweet things, and this both a little easier to drink and a lot more than she'd usually get. Good luck to you later, Gustave.]
I know you've heard only the depressing parts, but we had some nice things.
[There's a small sip of his own drink as she takes hers, but Scott almost strangely stays quiet for a second as he listens to her. Maybe hard to notice given the cup that's lifted to his mouth, but there's something just a little more subdued about him as he gets his question out.]
What are some of the nice things you've had back home? [He assumes most of it is with Gustave, but he wants to hear from her.]
Gustave. He's here, though, so I'll be a little more creative...
[It helps that Verso had once asked her a similar question.]
The city itself was nice. I was a runner for the warehouses, so I was always going here and there... and there was this beautiful garden on top of some of the rooftops. Me and Gustave would meet there for lunch or after the day was done, before we went home to Emma.
[Man, she had to run materials for the warehouses? Sounds like a lot of work... but guess he shouldn't be surprised, if there's no one older than 33 years old in her world. And everything is kind of shit. Then she went on an expedition to stop all that but it didn't really work out??
Thoughts of her being dead back home only makes the hot chocolate taste bitter in his mouth, so he tries not to think about it more. At least not that part.]
So, a big fan of flowers, huh? [At least that's encouraging to hear with where he plans on leading her to.] Ever thought of starting your own garden in this place?
Just... the colors. Lumière had some very pretty trees, too.
[Some part of her misses them, but not too much. The important thing was Gustave. She doesn't remember enjoying the flowers or trees or anything before he became her family.]
Sciel and I were talking about growing flowers on our balcony. Or the rooftop of the apartment. Maybe once we finish painting the rooms.
[So she likes pretty things, all girls do-- okay, but he's glad for her, really. Finding something good in a place that seems kind of awful otherwise. And then finding it here.]
I didn't know you and the others were putting that much work into personalizing your apartment though. [And then back to teasing--] What color are you going to paint your room? Something girly like Sophie's?
[Even though Sophie's room is kind of cool with all those games and stuff. He just has to be a brat sometimes.]
[Maelle would love to have a room like Sophie's. It's cute and fun and comfortable. Maybe not so much Gustave's style, so as long as they're sharing a room, Maelle's keeping it tame.]
[Not that he would be able to see the color that it's supposed to be... that's something he'd probably have to ask Sophie for. Although, that feels like an embarrassing question to ask in the first place!! He can already imagine the telepath teasing him and he can't have that!!
That's his job, to tease her.]
So anything else you're thinking of adding to your room? A cool beanbag chair is totally needed. And a music player, obviously.
[It feels like it's on almost all the time, between Sciel and Gustave and Lune spending time in the shared space, doing whatever they feel like doing. Maelle spends more time out there than in the bedroom, really.]
Sophie showed me the umm... handheld game thing? Having one of those might be fun, though it's not really decor.
Like a 'Gameboy?' I have one of those too, they're pretty fun.
[Way more advanced than the games he's used to back home. Well, okay, the arcade back home have games that are still flashier, but the fact that you can carry it in such a portable way... it's kind of amazing. Like how they made portable music players compared to record players and stuff.
But thinking about that again...]
But what kind of music do you listen to? Have a lineup of rock music at all?
[As they're chatting though, they're getting closer and closer to where he wants to take Maelle. He's still trying to play it cool, not wanting to appear nervous about showing her a place that doesn't really fit in with his whole super cool image.]
[A few generations behind, kids. It's a Switch, but anything is new and fun to her simply because it didn't exist in Lumière.
Oblivious to any nerves as she takes a small bite of her crossaint, wiping flaky crumbs off herself, she gives his question some thought.]
Rock? The loud music with electric guitars? [She's been learning some things! She laughs and shakes her head.] It's much more... relaxing. Piano and violin and stuff like that.
Oh no... you're a classical music lover, aren't you?
[This is the saddest thing he's heard all day... truly the thing that will break their friendship. Scott scrunches his nose at first in an exaggerated fashion, before breaking into laughter, his shoulder bumping hers.]
That just means I have to show you my favorites later. Get you to join the dark side.

[Doubt. Maelle pretends to need to take a step to not topple from that nudge, laughing.]
What a compliment! I'll remember it always, Scott.

Well, you know. I'm a sponge, here to learn about all the things Lumière lacked.
