Gustave. He's here, though, so I'll be a little more creative...
[It helps that Verso had once asked her a similar question.]
The city itself was nice. I was a runner for the warehouses, so I was always going here and there... and there was this beautiful garden on top of some of the rooftops. Me and Gustave would meet there for lunch or after the day was done, before we went home to Emma.
[Man, she had to run materials for the warehouses? Sounds like a lot of work... but guess he shouldn't be surprised, if there's no one older than 33 years old in her world. And everything is kind of shit. Then she went on an expedition to stop all that but it didn't really work out??
Thoughts of her being dead back home only makes the hot chocolate taste bitter in his mouth, so he tries not to think about it more. At least not that part.]
So, a big fan of flowers, huh? [At least that's encouraging to hear with where he plans on leading her to.] Ever thought of starting your own garden in this place?
Just... the colors. Lumière had some very pretty trees, too.
[Some part of her misses them, but not too much. The important thing was Gustave. She doesn't remember enjoying the flowers or trees or anything before he became her family.]
Sciel and I were talking about growing flowers on our balcony. Or the rooftop of the apartment. Maybe once we finish painting the rooms.
[So she likes pretty things, all girls do-- okay, but he's glad for her, really. Finding something good in a place that seems kind of awful otherwise. And then finding it here.]
I didn't know you and the others were putting that much work into personalizing your apartment though. [And then back to teasing--] What color are you going to paint your room? Something girly like Sophie's?
[Even though Sophie's room is kind of cool with all those games and stuff. He just has to be a brat sometimes.]
[Maelle would love to have a room like Sophie's. It's cute and fun and comfortable. Maybe not so much Gustave's style, so as long as they're sharing a room, Maelle's keeping it tame.]
[Not that he would be able to see the color that it's supposed to be... that's something he'd probably have to ask Sophie for. Although, that feels like an embarrassing question to ask in the first place!! He can already imagine the telepath teasing him and he can't have that!!
That's his job, to tease her.]
So anything else you're thinking of adding to your room? A cool beanbag chair is totally needed. And a music player, obviously.
[It feels like it's on almost all the time, between Sciel and Gustave and Lune spending time in the shared space, doing whatever they feel like doing. Maelle spends more time out there than in the bedroom, really.]
Sophie showed me the umm... handheld game thing? Having one of those might be fun, though it's not really decor.
Like a 'Gameboy?' I have one of those too, they're pretty fun.
[Way more advanced than the games he's used to back home. Well, okay, the arcade back home have games that are still flashier, but the fact that you can carry it in such a portable way... it's kind of amazing. Like how they made portable music players compared to record players and stuff.
But thinking about that again...]
But what kind of music do you listen to? Have a lineup of rock music at all?
[As they're chatting though, they're getting closer and closer to where he wants to take Maelle. He's still trying to play it cool, not wanting to appear nervous about showing her a place that doesn't really fit in with his whole super cool image.]
[A few generations behind, kids. It's a Switch, but anything is new and fun to her simply because it didn't exist in Lumière.
Oblivious to any nerves as she takes a small bite of her crossaint, wiping flaky crumbs off herself, she gives his question some thought.]
Rock? The loud music with electric guitars? [She's been learning some things! She laughs and shakes her head.] It's much more... relaxing. Piano and violin and stuff like that.
Oh no... you're a classical music lover, aren't you?
[This is the saddest thing he's heard all day... truly the thing that will break their friendship. Scott scrunches his nose at first in an exaggerated fashion, before breaking into laughter, his shoulder bumping hers.]
That just means I have to show you my favorites later. Get you to join the dark side.
Yeah, music that's like... all instrumental. Music that would play in the background of rich society.
[Although guess if she's from some weird version of France, despite it being kind of horrible, it checks out?? It sort of makes sense in his teenage brain. France is France no matter what. He won't hold it against her.
But they're just about there, Scott nodding over at her as he starts walking off street and to a more nature like path. That nervousness from before returns briefly, but he tries to cover it up like normal.]
Just past here. [...] I know, try and contain your excitement.
[She prefers nature over city, if she's being honest. The Content had been fresh and new and beautiful and terrifying--but that felt better than Lumiere and it's broken buildings and cracked foundations, no matter how much Maelle enjoyed the architecture and the hidden spots only she knew.]
Excitement contained. Curiosity... can't promise anything. I didn't know we were going on a nature walk.
[But each step draws them closer to his intended destination. It's not like a super secret spot that no one can find or venture into, but it's a bit off the beaten path. He remembers coming here the first time with Shadow, when he was feeling like shit and everything. The grumpy hedgehog is long gone, but the strange companionship he had with him isn't something he's going to forget.
And in a corny ass sort of way, he's glad to kind of share this spot with someone that he likes and cares about.
But with another push through a few bushes, they finally make it to a small field that is a good distance away from the nearest street or building. A small grove filled with various flowers, though some are starting to fade with the changing weather. Still, there's something lively and bright about this place, while at the same time being quiet and peaceful. It's probably not an area that Scott would normally associate himself with, but.]
And here we are.
[He announces with a small smile, walking forward a few steps and trying to stop himself from looking anxious by facing the flowers instead of her.]
[She's not sure what she was expecting, but a flower field was probably not it. She's surprised, eyebrows up as she glances to Scott who is very much not looking at her. Her feet carry her closer, and she crouches down where some of the flowers flutter in the slight breeze, appreciating the colors.]
Just in time before the weather changes, huh? I didn't know this was here.
[Yep, he's definitely nervous, even though it's clear that she's appreciating the flowers-- already kneeling by the ground so she can get a better look. It's just uh, he's just feeling this way for some reason!
One hand reaches up to rub the back of his neck, resisting the urge to just play things off or pretend that everything is just chill.]
Uh yeah, just a place one of my friends showed me a while back. No big deal. Thought it would be kind of nice to show you, I guess.
[Her simple comment does a lot to ease those anxieties that have been building up, the mutant finally feeling a little less stupid and more comfortable with everything. Not that he expected to Maelle to laugh or anything, but... guess he really just wanted to impress her. Or make her really enjoy the place he's been wanting to take her.
That stress almost visibly leaves his body, a more familiar smile tugging at the corner of his mouth before he kneels down next to her.]
[As he easily plops down next to her, Scott makes sure that he doesn't accidentally sit on any of the flowers they're looking at, partly because Maelle really seems to love them and because he can almost imagine Shadow frowning at him from wherever he's at. Hopefully back home and being a grumpy ass hedgehog.
And while it's always a little harder for him to fully appreciate something like this, since everything is a shade of red to him, there are still other things that sort of make this place memorable. Right now he's adding more to it.]
Do I get any say in this? [He laughs, but it's clear he's going to go along with her.]
[She makes sure her drink and snack are safely set down on some grass, crossing her legs and searching around for some smaller flowers. She feels a little bad for picking them, but the season change will take them out soon enough, right?]
Being able to make a flower chain is a very useful skill, you know.
[He leans his face against an open palm, one eyebrow raised but still he's smiling because even though they're just sitting in a flower field, he's just happy to spend time with her. So fucking mushy, but at least he doesn't have to worry about her reading his thoughts.
Well... [It's been a minute since she's done this, so she takes a moment to carefully use her nails to make a slit in a stem.] Sophie will be impressed.
[She slips in the stem of another flower, linking the two together.]
[A thoughtful little noise leaves him at that. Would Sophie know how to do something like this? Probably not, he can't really picture Sophie delicately puncturing a stem with her nail to work on a flower chain. She probably would just buy something like that.
So he continues to lean his cheek against his palm as he watches her.]
You know, you're probably right. She definitely doesn't know how to do this. She wouldn't want to get her nails dirty and stuff.
[He likes Sophie with all his heart, really.] Going to make her one?
