(Oh, God, kiddo, you're breaking her heart. She loves to pretend she doesn't have one, but she's so damn sentimental that it makes her detachment so strange. Sophie can hear the sniffing, feel all the emotion pouring from him, and once he looks away, she struggles with several actions of reaching, returning, lifting her hand, putting it down, how does she comfort — how does she fucking do this? She knows she can, she's done it before, but wow, that's — well, fuck it, hope that's enough somehow. An honest attempt.
So, she unfastens their seatbelts, pulling him to rest his head on her shoulder with her arms around him. She also has no idea what to say, she's sure opening her mouth would be disastrous, and while she has several hesitancies about doing this and not meeting expectations later on running through her head, she'll do it anyway, quietly.)
[He doesn't outright cry, but it's still telling in the way that he doesn't resist when she pulls him into that comforting hug. Just Sophie's arms around him in an embrace that speaks volumes, even if she's not saying anything herself. That's more than fine with Scott, maybe it's easier in a way too, her silently supporting him as he finally turns into their hold so that he can bury his face against her shoulder. Maybe a little awkward with his sunglasses, the frames bumping up, but he's closing his eyes anyway as he hugs her back.]
Sophie... I...
[He's sorry?? For being stupid? For doubting her? But all of that feels too much for him to admit right now, so he goes with something else, another emotion that is just as powerful and that he can say with one single breath.] T-thanks...
(And she means it, it's at least something easy that she can tell him. It can be super hard to be there for him, he sometimes makes it really hard, but it's a choice she made months ago and can't see herself ever making a different one.
She's glad he's here, and she presses that feeling into a kiss to the top of his head. She'll let him stay in that embrace, gentle caresses to hair and shoulder as further comfort in the absence of more verbal reassurance. Once he's ready again, she'll grab her phone again and give it to him.)
Come on, I'm teaching you, you're doing it, and then you're driving us to the mall, yeah?
[Permission to not say any more embarrassing things and that's fine with him. He'll just continue to seek Sophie's supporting embrace, his arms wrapped around her as his body lightly trembles. Still not outright crying, like he wants to keep that much still, but it's not like he can really hide from a telepath. It's some comfort, even if a little invasive sometimes, because at least he knows that Sophie knows how he feels without him needing to express it.
But eventually, with one large inhale, he pulls back and wipes his eyes, nodding a little to her suggestion.]
Mall sounds good. Hopefully the new flavor of slushie is there...
