( It’s strange. It’s like… even before he woke from the psychic coma he’d placed himself into, somehow, deep down, some unconscious part of him knew Scott knew. Maybe some part of his mind had been listening. Maybe he’d simply felt it the moment he woke and had only clued in to what he was feeling after he’d felt more like himself and less groggy. Whatever the case, Scott knows their blood relation to one another — the extent of that he doesn’t know just yet — and that means… the cat’s out of the bag.
Great.
It’s only when he’s feeling better physically and telepathically — emotionally is a whole different ballgame right now — that he starts to really think about how to go about this. He’s not going to avoid him. He can’t. Well. He could as he certainly has the telepathic means to, but. Scott doesn't deserve that and he can’t bring himself to do that to him. Plus, he’s sure the other would hunt him down at some point. So. Yeah. This is a whole Thing now. Nice going, Julian. Although, he’s not even mad at the other mutant as he didn’t know to not really say anything and why would he when it’s something they all seem to know and deal with back on their Earth?
Whatever. Anyways. Nate’s outside, high in the sky, floating in his little telekinetic bubble as he often does when he wants to be away from everyone. Eyes shut, mind blocking out the noise, wishing Forge was here to help him with this; he’s been missing Forge a lot lately. The irony there when he considered the other mutant a father figure… and has an alternate version of his blood father here with him now. When he drops down it’s near Scott and he stands there. Quiet. Blue eyes matching the blue Scott had before his mutation kicked in and denied him ever being able to see without that visor and ruby quartz glasses again. So. Yeah. )
[He's been really angry the past few days. Not angry enough to not check on Nate every so often, because no matter what stupid shit he learned the past few days, he still cares about him. And it's not just because he's his son. Alternative son. Whatever. Everyone is pretty much 'alternative' to him... or guess the actual correct thing is that he's the one that doesn't fully fit in with the others. He's the 'alternative Scott.' Everything about it makes him so angry and confused and torn between either wanting to just move away from the mansion or just sticking around because the other mutants are still important to him in some way.
Even if he feels like a huge joke.
But besides all that...
Predictably, Scott's not in a great mood when Nate flies over to him, the teen looking grumpy with his hands in his pockets, always looking like he's mad about something or has a chip on his shoulder. Nate's one of the people that he's been wanting to blast in the face, but also, he can't fully disguise his relief seeing him healthy again. At least flying around and looking alive, instead of that comatose form that crashed in the desert. Or hung limply in Julian's arms. He hated that, thanks.
Stop making everything feel so confusing!!]
Just saying this right now, I hate you.
[He bites his lip soon after saying that though, face turning away from him.] I mean.
His gaze drops when Scott says that — a flicker of thinking maybe this was a bad idea to come talk to him crossing his thoughts. But he figures it's fair, especially with feeling as though he'd been kept in the dark with all... this. He can relate to that frustration — hates being kept in the dark himself, so. Yeah. He gets it, just... it sucks.
Also, is this where he gets his moodiness from? Maybe.
Sigh on his lips, he stands there. Quiet. Mulling over how to handle this, what to say, and just... finds himself at a sort of loss with it all. )
I'm sorry.
( He offers then, gently. )
I didn't think you needed that on your plate with everything else here.
( Especially with Scott being so new to being a mutant and all, never mind the whole a lot younger part, though that certainly plays its own part with all this. Arms coming to fold in front of his chest, he lets out another sigh. )
I don't... know you. Him, I mean. Scott Summers. I know of him, but I've never really met him. Never talked to him much. Just in passing once. So it's... weird for me, too.
[With Nate's apology, Scott's shoulders droop, like they're no longer trying to hide how upset he is. Keeping up with that anger was familiar and easy in a way, but underneath all that, he's just been feeling lost. Overwhelmed from the mission itself, hearing all this new information, and not knowing how to really direct the way he's been feeling. He's always lacked that, direction, a goal.
At least having a few days to himself has blunted some of his more reactive anger, with the lingering embers quickly dying down as the other mutant keeps talking. He's not sure if it helps that Nate is his son... no matter how weird and out of place that feels, or maybe it's just that he simply has come to care about him a lot during the Solmara mission. Working together and everything.
Or maybe it's finally having some understanding of someone else's perspective, other than his own. Quentin mentioned that Nate was the one that wanted to hide all this in the first place and guess he can understand why. In a way. It would be weird to see your dad as a teenager, right? Probably. Just as weird as seeing his son as someone older than him.
Even if he's not the actual Scott that is his dad. As Nate mentioned, it's all weird.]
Great, join the club. [The club of knowing Scott Summers, the other Scott. The one that everyone seems to be comparing him to. A hard ass, apparently. Someone that no one seems to like, but is still leader of the X-Men?? He doesn't understand any of it, really, but he just feels so tired. Uncertain. This other version of him is making him feel like an outcast, despite what Sophie has told him, that they're supposedly family.
( The sound that leaves him is one that's both soft and tired, a brush of his tongue over his bottom lips as he shrugs, staring down some with a shake of his head to follow, white bangs falling in front of his face as he does. )
Not like I'd blame you if you did.
( Hate him, that is. Although he can't exactly say he'd be happy about it, but.
He falls silent then. Blue eyes staring down. He... doesn't know what to say here — doesn't even really know what to feel when he doesn't know his blood parents back on Earth. Knows of them, sure. But beyond that and the extremely brief conversation he'd had with them at all in passing, they're still strangers to him as he himself might be to them. So. In other words, there's a lot of awkward to be had here. )
I don't... know them because I wasn't... born. Not like people usually are. ( He sighs. ) I was made. In a lab. To be a weapon for someone. It's why I don't know you. Him. I never knew about who I was made from until recently.
[Scott mumbles, the words barely audible and clearly not meant to be heard. It's just bitter grumbling from a teenager that thinks the world is against him. Probably not a fair assumption to make of the other mutants, but he lets that sudden flare of anger run its course, the familiar irritation spiking before leaving his body and contributing to the momentary silence between them.
....
Nate's still feeling awkward and unsure himself, isn't he? He can see that now, especially after that earlier admittance. All of this really is weird to him. He wasn't fibbing about that, not that Scott really thought so, but the silence really hammers it in. It feels like a true mimicry of how he's feeling.
Oh and that's bombshell--]
What? You were created? [Kind of like Sophie? Except Nate isn't a clone, but he still thinks about her as he looks up at Nate with a parted mouth, fully surprised. The whole mention of him being a weapon only further solidifies his thoughts. And just like that time, a running thought of what the fuck repeats in his mind.] By my-- his DNA and someone else's?
[Who is the other person and he wants ask that, kind of, but something else blurts out from him--] That's fucked up. You're not a weapon!
[...Some sudden defensive anger from Scott, but for once, on behalf of another mutant here.]
( Scott's anger gets his gaze to lift — gets those bright blue eyes of his to gently stare to the other mutant and he's... quiet. Shielding himself, even. Not wanting all the things Scott is feeling right now to splatter all over him. Being empathic like he is, it sucks sometimes, just as much as it does being a telepath.
Licking over his lips, he shakes his head, dropping his gaze again. )
Just because that's why I was made, doesn't mean it has to be that way for me.
( It's what he's been telling himself — what he's told Sinister himself and what he wants out of the time he has left to him in this life he never asked for. To find some semblance of normalcy within the chaos that is his life and live it, the best that he can, without being used as a weapon in anyone's war. )
I'm figuring it out. Or trying to but... something always happens when I do. Or that's how it was back on Earth anyways.
[He offers, almost bluntly. Scott's glad that Nate doesn't think of himself as a weapon, because obviously he's more than that, and so he can spare him that particular lecture. That anger dissipates again, always something that rises quickly before dying down, at least for right now. There's that lingering question if it's just Sophie's timeline, the main timeline it feels like, that's so fucked up with people getting mutant DNA or something that just happens.
...Is it happening in his world and he just doesn't know about it?
But he quickly shifts his attention back to Nate, who is still quiet and solemn and... maybe just a little moody. Hm, why does that feel familiar--]
Something fucked up always happens, right? And now you're here, with asshole mutants that are from your future and your asshole dad.
( Something always happens, yeah. Seems to be a running theme with being a mutant. Granted, it's a little more... personal drama?? than mutant-related here. Back on the Earth he's found himself on now, it's more about who he is and what he can do than anything else, but. He's still had a couple moments in his personal life that have been very... difficult, for lack of a better word.
He looks to Scott when he says what he does and he shakes his head before he looks back down. )
You're just Scott.
( It's said as a means to alleviate the pressure of feeling as though he needs to be that for or to him because... it's weird. For the both of them. For different and similar reasons. )
It doesn't have to be or mean anything else between us.
😌
