⏵ character information
name: Scott Summers
canon: XMCU (Revised Timeline)
age: 16
canon point: Driving back from the mall
history: Wiki entry! Also, still unsure if the movie 'Logan' is actually part of the timeline, but ?????.
abilities: Although he just gained his powers, Scott can fire powerful optic blasts from his eyes, strong enough to tear a large tree in half and break through metal walls. They actually don't generate heat and are more of a 'concussive force,' but sometimes you see heat in the movies because they either want to make it flashy or there's just a lot of friction being made. idk superhero powers are weird.

Unfortunately for Scott, he's unable to control said optic blasts, so they are continuously shooting from his eyes and they can only be contained by a pair of specialized sunglasses with ruby quartz in them.

personality:
Young Scott is in a lot of ways, quite different from his adult self. In this version of him, he's shown to be a little bit of a rebel instead of a boy scout, happily playing hooky with other mutants and going to the mall instead of attending class. In his old high school, it's implied that he often disrupts class and is well-acquainted with going to the principal's office. He's often sarcastic and can be rude at times, like when telling off a high school bully or making biting remarks towards his older brother (although this part was in a deleted scene). He's just a little bit more of a regular troubled teen that considers himself an outcast or freak, even before his powers awakened.

Despite all this, Scott can be cognizant of others. While he truly just wanted to play hooky and go to the mall, he also seemed to recognize that Kurt wanted to experience more of 'American' culture and he was aware that Jean's been cooped up in Xavier's School for a long time. He takes them out just to have fun and be a regular teen, even though they're all mutants. So, he's not entirely absorbed in himself. Being a new mutant, he's also still learning about the prejudices being thrown at his kind, not fully experiencing it just yet. The fact that Mystique saved the president a decade ago has helped relations between humans and mutants, but it definitely still exists.

Scott is shown to be quite courageous and good-hearted when it comes down to it. When several mutants get kidnapped by Stryker, he basically switches gears to try and find a way to rescue them with Kurt and Jean, even though they're going to a dangerous military base. It's also here where he displays some natural leadership qualities, being able to take charge and boss people around, while keeping calm despite the fact that he probably was scared. He's also shown to trust his teammates during this time, working well with them and believing in their abilities.

While later in the movie he's come to accept his mutant powers a little more, it's clear that he's at first afraid of them, fearful of hurting others because all he really has to do is just look at people to cause serious harm or death. Throughout most of the movie, Scott is extremely hesitant about using his optic blasts, not to mention that he's unable to control them at all, only being able to keep them at bay by special sunglasses. It's through Raven's remark to basically just 'let go' that he uses his powers more freely, but he was also fighting a mutant god and his followers from destroying the world, so situation kind of called for it. I usually interpret Scott, at least at this point, still not 100% comfortable with his optic blasts and wanting to control them a bit more.

One important relationship that Scott has is with his older brother, Alex. They have an age gap of over 20 years and it's implied that they don't live together or see each other all that much. Scott, at first, is shown to be sarcastic and dismissive of Alex when he first gained his powers, not believing that they share much in common, but it's through Alex that he's introduced to Xavier and he also helps him get settled in the school, guiding him around when he still had to keep his eyes closed. It shows that they deeply care about each other and Scott himself is completely devastated when Alex dies during the explosion. He believed that Alex was the one that was going to do great things with his life and that he should've been the person to die in the blast, not Alex. It's clear that Scott highly respects his brother and sees him as a hero of sorts. The canon point I'm taking him from is before Alex's death, but it's still something I wanted to note.

He's not quite yet an X-Man yet and he still has a lot of growing up to do, but Scott's heart is in the right place and he's already willing to risk his life, even at the young age of 16.
