( Something always happens, yeah. Seems to be a running theme with being a mutant. Granted, it's a little more... personal drama?? than mutant-related here. Back on the Earth he's found himself on now, it's more about who he is and what he can do than anything else, but. He's still had a couple moments in his personal life that have been very... difficult, for lack of a better word.
He looks to Scott when he says what he does and he shakes his head before he looks back down. )
You're just Scott.
( It's said as a means to alleviate the pressure of feeling as though he needs to be that for or to him because... it's weird. For the both of them. For different and similar reasons. )
It doesn't have to be or mean anything else between us.
An offering that gets Scott to really look at Nate, a flash of something hopeful lingering in his gaze behind those glasses, before he shakes his head. He's sure that Nate meant every single word of that, but is it really that simple? Is he really just Scott Summers? His own version.]
...You really think that? Won't you always look at me and see the person that's going to be your dad?
[Even if they're not from the same universe, he's still Scott Summers. It's a constant reminder that he gets anyway while being here. It's never felt fair. He doesn't know anything about his older alternative self and that's what they see or expect whenever they look at him, right? Julian hates him, he's sure. Not that he cares what that other mutant thinks!! ...But yeah.]
Not to mention that you kept all this a secret from me in the first place.
( He's almost a little too quick in saying that and, as such, he sighs. )
I told you. I don't know him. We just share blood. DNA. We don't have a relationship with each other.
( And he honestly doesn't know if they ever will. Being in Sinister's clutches aside, he doesn't know whether or not Scott Summers will come to know who he is to him or if he'll even care or want to know some kid of his from an alternate timeline. He tries to not think about it too much, but. Being here? He suddenly has a lot more time on his hands to think about a number of things, a lot of which he'd rather not. )
I also told you why I didn't want to say anything to you in the first place. Because it's weird for the both of us for different and similar reasons and you've got enough on your plate anyways.
[A small flinch, an instinctive reaction that he can't explain, hearing Nate say that. At least he's quickly moving on, sparing Scott from assessing why he reacted that way in the first place.]
....
[Isn't this the sort of thing he wanted all along? For the other mutants to see him for who he is, and stop comparing him to the Scott Summers they know and hate? Tolerate. Begrudgingly respect. Different feelings lofted at the man that he might become at some point, although Scott sort of wants nothing to do with the X-Men or whatever. He still doesn't fully understand that yet besides mutant vigilante group. Superheroes??
But quietly looking at Nate, his arms drop by his sides and maybe none of that X-Men stuff matters right now. Going into Solmara, he didn't know about it or think about their connection.]
Do you actually want to know me? Have... whatever relationship we'll have? [Friendship?? Is that weird?? He doesn't know. Not like anyone made a fucking guidebook about this kind of thing. Not like he's had a ton of friends back home either.
...] Because I would.
[Quiet admittance. It's not because he's trying to make up for that other Scott, right? No, Nate doesn't want that, he's said that. It's just for himself, because he's gotten to like and care about the other mutant a lot.]
( That's... a loaded question if there ever was one.
There's mixed feelings regarding that. On the one hand, he is curious about the man, Scott Summers, and has quietly wondered what he might be like and how he's like him, but. On the other hand, Forge had been the closest thing he'd had to a father figure in his life and really, the only one he's looked to as such. While he and Scott Summers share blood, he had had something with Forge, fleeting as it was, and he misses him still to this day.
He's about to see if he can muster up some sort of answer so as not to leave the other mutant hanging there when he goes and says that other part and, surprised a little, blue eyes lift their gaze to fall onto Scott there as he stands in silence. Whatever relationship they'll have... he wants to know him... that's. Something. He's not sure what, but it's something and he doesn't know how to feel with that something. )
Not... as father and son.
( Because it's just... too weird. For both of them. )
But... Scott Summers... I can't say I'm not curious to know him. Even if it's weird.
[Given how he's acted, Scott guesses he can't be all too shocked to see that surprise projected towards him. He did tell him like 5 minutes ago that he hated him. Doesn't stop him from waiting for Nate's full reaction with something lodged in his chest, because it feels like if he fails here, then he's never going to get anywhere ever. Probably not true, but Scott's been taking everything lately rather personally.
And. There's a basically a yes. Yeah. It is.
.....
There's a small reminder that whispers in the back of his mind. It's in a voice that isn't his own and that might sound like Sophie's, telling him to have patience with the other mutants here. He said he'd try and there's been ups and downs when it comes to that, but... starting here, with Nate, isn't the worst. Might be less upsetting in a way, since he's already admitted to not knowing the other Scott Summers, but maybe it's a little more than that.
Memories of them working together in Solmara run through his mind. The other mutant flying them back to the portal. Scott choked with worry that he would never wake up after all that.]
Bet you didn't know that I like the arcade. And Star Wars.
